OUR FOOD SAFETY TRAINING COURSES

Introduction

Illness from food in the UK is a significant risk. The interaction of people with and around food in the workplace can greatly impact the likelihood of foodborne illnesses.

Objective

The objective of the qualification is to educate Learners in food safety. It includes how individuals have a personal responsibility for food safety, the importance of personal hygiene, keeping work areas clean and tidy, safe food handling practices and keeping food safe.

Intended audience

This qualification is for anyone who handles food, or plans to handle food, in the catering industry. It would also be beneficial for people who come into contact, due to the nature of their work, with food handling areas, e.g. pest control officers and delivery personnel.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training. There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand how individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety
  • Understand the importance of keeping him/herself clean and hygienic
  • Understand the importance of keeping the work areas clean and hygienic
  • Understand the importance of keeping food safe

Qualification

QA Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

Introduction

It includes the importance of safety management procedures and the requirements for monitoring, recording and evaluating these procedures, food safety and the law, good food hygiene practice and the role of the supervisor in the catering environment.

Intended audience

This qualification is for people who work, or are preparing to work, in a supervisory role in a catering environment. It would also be suitable for people who own or manage small catering businesses.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training. It is recommended that Learners already hold the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (QCF). There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the role of the supervisor in ensuring compliance with food safety legislation
  • Understand the application and monitoring of good hygiene practice
  • Understand how to implement food safety management procedures
  • Understand the role of the supervisor in staff training

QA Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering
